Das Wasserschloss, errichtet 1905–1907, bildet das Zentrum des dritten Bauabschnitts der Speicherstadt. Die besondere Architektur mit Glasziegelbändern und Gliederungen in Granit erhielt das Gebäude aufgrund seiner exponierten Lage. Das Wasserschlösschen wurde früher von den Windenwärtern oder Windenwächtern bewohnt. Diese Techniker waren für die Wartung und Reparatur der hydraulischen Speicherwinden zuständig.
The moated castle , built 1905-1907 , is the center of the third phase of construction of the warehouse district . The special architecture with glass brick bands and Subdivisions in Granite received the building due to its exposed location . The moated castle was inhabited by the wind guards or wind sensors . These technicians were responsible for the maintenance and repair of the hydraulic accumulator winds .

Aufgrund seiner außergewöhnlichen Lage und der besonderen Architektur ist das Wasserschloss das meistfotografierte Gebäude in der Speicherstadt. Standort für die Fotografen ist die Poggenmühlenbrücke.

Probably the most photographed motive in Hamburg (Germany): the Wasserschloss (water castle) in Hamburg’s old warehouse district (Speicherstadt). I almost didn’t want to shoot this picture as it has been taken so many times but then decided otherwise. However, I tried to be a bit different and included the bridge as foreground element to give it a bit more depth but also to cover the boring sky.
