Fushimi Inari Taisha is probably one of the most recognizable shrines in the Kyoto area and maybe in the whole world. It’s most famous for thousands of vermilion torii gates which lead to the inner shrine. It’s said there are around 10.000 torii gates. Near the entrance they are so tightly placed that walking through them is like walking through a tunnel. The farther you go from the beginning, however, the larger the spacing between the torii gates becomes.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is very very crowded no matter it’s early in the morning or late at night. Narrow path doesn’t make things any easier as whenever someone stops to take a picture it leads to people queuing behind him. For that reason similarly to bamboo grove, I had to make several attempts to get the photo I wanted. And as you can probably guess, what I wanted was a people-free frame to give the place deserted and mystical look.
