New on 500px : Summer Tanager, in rain by matthewscerriwildlife by matthewscerriwildlife

The summer tanager quickly became one of my favourite birds while out in Costa Rica’s rain forests. Its bright red plumage was magnificently striking every time it came into view.

One of my favourite shots came about when the rain started drizzling down. It’s not much, but I feel it adds that little bit extra to the background.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

The Speckled Tanager is a charismatic, brightly colored member of the genus Tangara that is rarely found alone. This species usually travels in small family groups and joins larger mixed species flocks containing many other congeneric species.
