New on 500px : Carnegie Centre Spiral Staircase IV by xwiechers by xwiechers

Built in 1903, it was indeed the first public library in Vancouver. In 1957 the library moved on to a bigger location and it became the home of the Vancouver Museum for ten years. In 1967 the museum moved out and the building lay vacant. ollowing a massive campaign spearheaded by the Downtown Eastside ResidentsAssociation City Council agreed to save the building and convert it to a community Centre. Carnegie Community Centre opened its doors to the public on January 20, 1980.

New on 500px : Spiralis by ottoberkeley by ottoberkeley

Newport Street Gallery houses stunning work from Damien Hirst’s expansive art collection, but the gallery, designed by architecture firm Caruso St John, also contains three extremely photogenic staircases. Each of them is a slightly different shape and with slightly different lighting from windows and skylights, but all of them feature wonderfully tactile timber stairs and are lined with brick walls.

This is my take on the central ovoid spiral, looking down from the upper level, which seemed to me to have the right sense of proportion between the path of the stairs, the patterns in the wall and the fluid and somewhat whimsical shape of the balustrade.

New on 500px : View From The Stage Door…. by Hugechoonz-Photography by Hugechoonz-Photography

This was the view from the Stage Door of the Grand Theatre, Chongqing, China that greeted us some nights….. They used to turn the bridge lights off at 10.15pm, and our show came down about 10.10pm, so I had very little opportunity to revisit this shot, camera and tripod in hand!!
