New on 500px : 1791 Food! by dphjertaas by dphjertaas

I was on the beach as the tide was coming in. I saw a group of around 15 Western Sandpipers coming towards me. I sat down and waited. As the tide got higher, they came fairly close to me while foraging. The first decent photos I have of this species. I never rknew before that they had a serrated bill… If anyone knows what it is eating, please let me know. It looks like the larval stage of some marine invertebrate. La Cholla Beach, Puerto Penasco, Mexico. 6 February 2016. Although it has a rather restricted breeding range in western Alaska, the Western Sandpiper is one of the most abundant shorebirds in North America. http://bit.ly/21FTGfO
