The Zaanse Schans is one of the highlights of the Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam. Be part of a vibrant and stunning living and working community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. It’s packed with wooden windmills, barns, houses and museums and built in the typically Dutch wooden architectural style, relocated here piece by piece since 1961.

The Zaanse Schans is a neigherhood of Zaandam (near Amsterdam, the Netherlands). It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses, the ca. 35 houses from all over the Zaanstreek were moved to the area starting in 1961.

I went to the Zaanse Schans a few weeks ago to take some pictures and see the area. The weather was pretty creepy but it created an amazing sunset.

I went to the Zaanse Schans last week with Wouter van Oosten. I took this picture just before heavy rainfall. i think the colors in the clouds is created by the citylights (light pollution).
