While photographing a group of Mountain Goats I witnessed something that taught me just how ingrained defense mechanisms are. Something seriously spooked this group of goats and I couldn’t believe how quickly they ran for and up the rocks. Obviously, seeking higher and difficult to access ground is part of their survival dna. No, I didn ever see what spooked them, but I want to believe that it was a mountain lionmakes the story so much better.

I admit that I have a thing for Mountain Goats. In a past life I did a bit of climbing in the White Clouds and learned to admire the raw ability that mountain goats have in impossible terrain and shear rock faces. Also, they just look cool… don’t you think?
