Trip to Rome.
The first name of the square, still very common today, originates from the semicircular layout of the Roman baths, the perimeter of which is traced by the semicircular colonnade of the square. The porticoes that decorate the square were built precisely in memory of the ancient buildings that stood: the porticoed buildings, dating from 1887-1898 are by Gaetano Koch. On the square is the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and Martyrs, converted from a wing of the Imperial Roman Baths: Michelangelo he obtained from the tepidarium wing for the large Greek cross church.
