New on 500px : Palace of Justice by HerbertAFranke by HerbertAFranke

The Palace of Justice in Vienna was built in 1875-1881 in Neo-Renaissance style. Especially ostentatious is the auditorium with the central main staircase and the coat of arms of the former Austrian crown lands. The Palace of Justice is located in the first district of Vienna between the Schmerlingplatz (front) and the two-line.

In the Palace of Justice are the seats of the following institutions:

Supreme Court (OGH)
General Prosecution (GP)
Oberlandesgericht Wien (Vienna Higher Regional Court)
Oberstaatsanwaltschaft Wien (Vienna OSTA)

The architect was Alexander Wielemans Monteforte, the construction manager Paul Lange and Dominik Avanzo. The two lions on the staircase and the marble statue of Justitia with gilded sword and law book
come by the South Tyrolean sculptor Emanuel Pendl.

New on 500px : Hallstatt in Austria by dragrund by dragrund

Usually I´m not highly motivated to get up very early in the morning to take pictures, but here in Hallstatt I made an exception. Due to the location of this UNESCO Heritage site village in between the mountains and the low clouds moving above the lake, the light there in the morning is really outstanding.

City Tower
Waidhofen/Ybbs, Lower Austria, Austria

The City Tower is one of the foremost symbols of the city of Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Lower Austria, and, at 50 m high, is clearly visible for many miles. It was constructed in the 1530s with the spoils from the expulsion of the invading Turkish hordes. The inscription, dating from 1932, reads “In the year 1532 the citizens, smithies, and farmers of Waidhofen forced the Turkish to flee and built this tower in remembrance.” One of the faces of the tower is set permanently to 11:45 to commemorate the hour of the citizens’ victory. Near the clock tower is a baroque column with the figure of the Virgin Mary. It was constructed in 1665 as a symbol of the Counter Reformation. Waidhofen’s Old City has many late medieval houses and public buildings enclosed within the old city walls. Several Gothic courtyards and arcades are still present, as are many renovated facades in the Biedermeier, Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque styles. For further information visit Wikipedia.
