Old wood pilings along the shoreline at Astoria, Oregon. I found out from shooting with Art Wolfe a while back that he totally loves photographing these old pilings in water that occur quite frequently along the Oregon coastline. Now he’s got me hooked. They make great foregrounds for the grand view as well as abstracts when you can fill the frame with them.

I woke up way too early this past Sunday. So my choice was to waste time hoping to get back to sleep or go out in search of a sunrise. Fortunately, I went with the sunrise and was able to capture the sunrise at the St. John’s Bridge. There is little traffic that early, but I was only able to shoot every 2-4 minutes to avoid cars in the photo.

The view you are seeing is from the very popular Tom McCall Preserve at Rowena.
Taken at sunrise, by myself, which is really odd for this place at this time of year. The light seemed to last all morning long. It was definitely a very memorable morning.
