New on 500px : Silent Twilight by landESCAPEphotography by landESCAPEphotography

Because of another dry winter, the High Sierra backcountry lakes began to thaw very early this year, and what little snow we have is melting fast. Tung and I took a quick backpacking trip into the mountains on our way down to teach a workshop in LA a few weeks ago. We didn’t get fresh snow or a fiery sky, but we had beautiful, cold mornings with icy lakes and the full moon setting right over massive peaks beginning to glow during twilight. That’ll do it for me.

It was wonderful to be back in my happy place… while I’ve loved everywhere I’ve traveled, the Sierra just feels like home, and that’s when I find myself most inspired. Stars exempt, this is a single exposure. I guess not every scene needs grand light painting, glow, or auroras to speak to me 🙂

New on 500px : growing up by landESCAPEphotography by landESCAPEphotography

you might have to fight to survive, but if you love what you do and why you do it, nothing will be able to stop you.

#escaype isn’t an app. it’s a way of life.

p.s. this is several exposures blended together, all from the same scene.

New on 500px : The Great Beyond by landESCAPEphotography by landESCAPEphotography

Hi, everyone! This is the beautiful flower-filled plateau at Rowena Crest in Oregon. This is a very popular area at sunrise and sunset. After shooting sunset, I realized this view faces east-southeast, which is where the Milky Way rises in the spring. I did a panorama during late twilight, slept in my car for a while, then returned for a panorama of the Milky Way arching over the flowers. Unfortunately, though there was enough ambient light, the constant wind here makes it nearly impossible to shoot the flowers with satisfactory sharpness at night, so I blended the two panos together. Everything is true to its position in the scene. Not sure if those are shooting stars or satellites.

I really hope you enjoy the image!
