Because of another dry winter, the High Sierra backcountry lakes began to thaw very early this year, and what little snow we have is melting fast. Tung and I took a quick backpacking trip into the mountains on our way down to teach a workshop in LA a few weeks ago. We didn’t get fresh snow or a fiery sky, but we had beautiful, cold mornings with icy lakes and the full moon setting right over massive peaks beginning to glow during twilight. That’ll do it for me.
It was wonderful to be back in my happy place… while I’ve loved everywhere I’ve traveled, the Sierra just feels like home, and that’s when I find myself most inspired. Stars exempt, this is a single exposure. I guess not every scene needs grand light painting, glow, or auroras to speak to me 🙂
