The young leave the nest at about six weeks. They still retain some down on their underparts and on their heads.By the time they are nearing the end of the nestling period they become increasingly active and adventurous. This chick was very interested in its reflection in my telephoto lens, on my camera.

This lion showed up out of the blue and I had to improvise because I had my back to it. The picture is taken handhold, without any adjustments to the camera and shot out of the back window of the car.
