I almost took a dip when trying to get this shot. I had to walk on an old wood plank, about 12 inches wide, out over the river, in order to capture this angle. If I would have lost my balance, or that old plank would have broke, I would have lost A LOT of equipment. Phew!

Cloud Gate, also known as “The Bean” in Millennium Park, Chicago, IL.

The buildings in the background are really tall, it took a lot of tilting to get them upright. A tilt-shift lens would be really fun, I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. It also took a long time to get all the people out of this shot. It turns out this is a popular place to be just after sunset. I used 4 different brackets of shots to mask out the people, and even with 4 photos to mask from I still had to do a little bit of cloning.

A close up image of a pair of ‘sea horses’ in the fountain doing their part to circulate the million and a half gallons of water that the fountain uses through its 133 jets.
The water is drained every winter to prevent freezing damage and refilled every spring using underground piping directly from Lake Michigan which is less than a city block away. The water is recycled for the entire season that the fountain is in use.
