This harrier popped up behind some tall reeds, and by some strange luck, my camera actually caught focus for a second. I kind of like the effect the reeds had on this shot – blurring out the wings. Thanks for looking!

This sparrow-hawk is taking some quality time to clean-up herself. She sat so close that I was hardly able to fit her in the frame. The nictitating membrane in front of her eye is clearly visible. Sparrow-hawks, the terror of every small bird in the forest. You have got to love nature and its creations.

I got this frame in Southern CA late last year when photographing with my good friend David Salem. We used Dave’s truck as a blind to get close to the raptors that are very skittish. We got lucky with this hawk that took off in an ideal angle. Hope you like it

Shot with 1DX and 400 DO II + 2X III. ISO 1600. 1/1250sec at f/8. Processed with DPP 4.3. This lens is ideal for shooting from a confined vehicle.

I sat in a forest in the southern part of the Netherlands waiting for things to happen, when this male Goshawk showed up. After a short period this goshawk takes on a defensive posture when another Goshawk is in the process of preforming an attack on him. What awesome birds they are! You have got to love nature and its creations.
