i visited the tetons for the first time, and i have to say it is truly a masterpiece of a national park. the longer i was there, the more i appreciated this place. this place is diverse, and has tons of photo opportunities if you just allow yourself to get lost in the landscape.

After shooting the snake river overlook (yeah i know, cliche and whatnot, but for not having been here before and on a birthday weekend getaway for my wife’s birthday – i had not many options), i found this literally right behind me. the winds were around 30 mph overnight, and the patterns were just superb!

ironically there was a workshop that showed up (a bit late in my opinion) to shoot sunrise. At least there were only two students, so not such a money grab on the instructors part. However, they fell into the pattern (no pun intended) of getting lost in the process of creating an image, rather than really enjoying the whole experience. i am sure we have all fallen victim to this at some point when first starting out. these patterns were 4 feet behind them. they really missed out on some exquisite compositions.

This is one of the first images I took last summer on our 5 week road trip to 5 national parks. Although we scouted the location and planned our compositions the day before, we had to arrive long before sunrise in order to secure our chosen locations. Not only is this a very popular spot, but a well know photographer was conducting a workshop and brought his group of 10 here for sunrise.
