When in Essen in Germany’s Ruhr district, do visit the former industrial mine complex called Zollverein in the north of the city. It is now a World Heritage Site that harbors great views of Bauhaus-inspired architecture as well as stunning industrial vistas – such as the water-filled pusher machine track that runs alongside the former coking plant wall.
