It almost looked as if some invisible hand was trying to bisect the horizontal cloud.

Clarke Quay in Singapore is a visual magnet for me – with all the old warehouses converted into restaurants and bars. This is just one of them.

New on 500px : Gospel Truth by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

This beautiful stained-glass window is probably 15-16 metres from end to end. It is the stunning backdrop to the altar at the Church of the Holy Spirit on Upper Thomson Road in Singapore.

This window, and all the stained-glass in the Church, is the work of a Milan artisan.

New on 500px : Dragon Dance by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

While I was waiting for my flight to Melbourne, I shot this image of the mesmerising mobile sculpture ‘Kinetic Rain’ at Terminal One at Changi International Airport.

Several of the movement sequences seem to mimic dragon-like movements, with their grace and undulation.

This is deceptively hard to shoot, as each ‘raindrop’ – there are more than 1,200 of them – is in constant motion.

Hence, you might shoot the same movement sequence more than once if you stand there for half an hour or more – but it’s almost impossible to exactly replicate the motion across an entire frame.

I’ve shot this scene dozens of times, at different parts of the day (when it takes on different light characteristics) and believe me, I still haven’t got the definitive shot yet!

Colonial-era building in Chinatown. Notice how, on each successive level, the fixed windows above each set of timber shutters are different in design? Of course you did!

I shot this a couple of hours ago, outside the Budha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown.

New on 500px : Sakura Selfie by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

This visitor was one of hundreds who took selfies in front of a cherry tree in full bloom on Monday. Her light-coloured shawl served my visual purpose well, in the overall context of balancing the tones in the shot. 197-6915a

New on 500px : The ‘Portraitist’ At Work by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

Unposed shot with subtle shadows of the long-tipped charcoal pencil and hand of the artist in residence at the Angsana Laguna Resort in Phuket, Thailand. You can find Jakkrit Portraitist on Facebook. I was fascinated by how loosely he holds the pencil in his hand. 197-6629b

New on 500px : Hornet’s Sting by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

The compelling geometry of a gunsight in the cockpit of an USAF F/A-18 Hornet caught my eye at the Singapore Air Show in February. See the last remnants of raindrops on the canopy?
