New on 500px : Sakura Selfie by 1davidmcmahon by 1davidmcmahon

This visitor was one of hundreds who took selfies in front of a cherry tree in full bloom on Monday. Her light-coloured shawl served my visual purpose well, in the overall context of balancing the tones in the shot. 197-6915a

New on 500px : Cherry blossoms over Jefferson IR mono by izzy2 by izzy2

Springtime cherry blossom watch and festival is one of the popular Washington DC annual celebration events. It started with a gift of 2000 Japanese cherry trees from Tokyo mayor to the city of Washington in 1912. Majority of cherry trees in the DC area now are single white blossom Yoshino (around the Tidal Basin) and Kwanzan cherry trees elsewhere. The first annual Cherry Blossom Festival took place in 1935. The festival includes 10 mile run, kite flying, Japanese stone lantern lighting, fireworks and parade and lasts 3 weeks and is attended by nearly million visitors.
