New on 500px : Red by JoeyCulver1 by JoeyCulver1

The northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a North American bird in the genus Cardinalis; it is also known colloquially as the redbird or common cardinal. It can be found in southern Canada, through the eastern United States from Maine to Texas and south through Mexico. It is found in woodlands, gardens, shrublands, and swamps.

The northern cardinal is a mid-sized songbird with a body length of 21 cm (8.3 in). It has a distinctive crest on the head and a mask on the face which is black in the male and gray in the female. The male is a vibrant red, while the female is a dull reddish olive. The northern cardinal is mainly granivorous, but also feeds on insects and fruit. The male behaves territorially, marking out his territory with song. During courtship, the male feeds seed to the female beak-to-beak. A clutch of three to four eggs is laid, and two to four clutches are produced each year.

Thanks for your support and comments. All are highly appreciated. Have a fantastic Friday.

New on 500px : A Mother is a Mother by Rybirdmusic by Rybirdmusic

A Mother is a Mother

From dogs and cats to the original tree,
only one brings life forward to see,
A mother is a mother, like no other.

Wings of gold that need not shine,
the heart inside remains divine,
it is a heart of gold that is the mother.

We only have one mother, the only one,
She is the mother, that shines like the sun
A mother is a mother, like no other.

New on 500px : Sharing by blue_iris by blue_iris

It’s really heart-warming for me to watch the way cardinals share their food. This is what just happened here i.e. on this very cold snowy winter day, the male Cardinal came back with a sunflower seed and gave it to his lovely companion. I find that adorable.

This shot was taken from my home office window. Most of the time, the Cardinals fly away as soon as they sense the slightest movement, but this time I managed to get a few shots (very high ISO through the window) before they took off.

Wishing you all someone to share your bounty with!
