The early morning sun shines low by the Soldiers and Sailors Monument to pay tribute to all those who gave their lives for this country, represented by the 37,000 flags planted in the Boston Common in for the Memorial Day celebrations.
Wonderful idea and work by the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund!

The inscription at the base of the Monument is worth transcribing:
To the men of Boston
Who died for their country
On land and sea in the war
Which kept the Union whole
Destroyed slavery
And maintained the constitution
Te grateful city
Has built this monument
That their example may speak
To coming generations
