It has been an interesting time here as the wood storks have pretty much taken over the island where the cormorants and great blue herons were nesting. There are still a couple of great blue nests and a couple of cormorants as well as anhingas but the rest of the island is wood storks. This happened last year and I was a witness last year to exactly what happens. Several wood storks come in and just chase out the already nesting birds. Other years they did not nest on this island but it looks like this is going to happen each year now. Fortunately in the image I posted the cormorant was able to fight off the wood stork and retain her nest with a juvenile still in the nest . How long she will be able to protect remains to be seen. But I do hope she can and save her young. Life in the wild is exciting, beautiful, difficult , sad and happy. So many adjectives and how awesome to be a part of this incredible world.
wishing you all a wonderful and blessed Tuesday !!!
