During the feast days promises are paid to the São Gonçalinho, throwing kilos of sweet chips from the top of the chapel, while in the street a crowd of people tries to catch them. The cavacas are sweet and covered with sugar, which can be of two types: round and relatively soft (to be eaten), or elongated and very hard (to be thrown from the chapel plate ).
The practice of firing cavacas is a characteristic of this peculiar feast, transforming it into an original manifestation of tribute, worship and veneration given to the saint by the pilgrims.
