New on 500px : Breathe III by Thokuipers by Thokuipers

The Zaanse Schans is a neigherhood of Zaandam (near Amsterdam, the Netherlands). It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses, the ca. 35 houses from all over the Zaanstreek were moved to the area starting in 1961.

I went to there with Wouter van Oosten to take some pictures.

This place really has a magical feel to it, if you are visiting Amsterdam you should really consider going to the Zaanse Schans (it’s only a 20 min drive from Amsterdam).

New on 500px : Speicherstadt & Wasserschloss by winfriedwerner by winfriedwerner

The Speicherstadt (lit. city of warehouses, meaning warehouse district) in Hamburg, Germany is the largest warehouse district in the world where the buildings stand on timber-pile foundations, oak logs, in this particular case. It is located in the port of Hamburg—within the HafenCity quarter—and was built from 1883 to 1927.

The district was built as a free zone to transfer goods without paying customs. As of 2009 the district and the surrounding area is under redevelopment.
