New on 500px : Much better by MauroPastore by MauroPastore

Not completely happy with my first try, I have decided di make a further step by scanning my old 6×7 negative with a digital camera. I have used an old 10 Megapixels Canon EOS 40D with a Tamron SP 90mm AF Macro lens. After few tests with different magnifier factor, I have decided to take 2×4 shots, this allowed to have at least one side of the negative frame in every shot, making the work of merging much easier. The resulting 56.3 Megapixels image is the sum of 8 shots successively merged in Photoshop. The image has been resized to 1000px because is pointless to have bigger images for web publishing purposes as very probably few of us have monitors with vertical resolution higher than 1440px.

New on 500px : First steps by MauroPastore by MauroPastore

This is one of the first still lives of mine. The shoot was taken back in 1980 as part of the school program. I clearly remember that the camera was a FATIF DS 4×5″ with 6×7 back. I don’t have idea about the lens, but for sure a 150mm. The light was provided by old 250w tungsten bulbs with reflector which I believe were from the ’50s. The negative has been digitalised with a flatbed scanner of already ten years old all-in-one hp printer with 1200dpi native resolution. A 7″ tablet provided the backlight. The noise produced by the scanner is very evident; however, I can’t complaint with the result.
